Egypt's exports rise 12.4% in August, trade deficit widens
Egypt's exports increased by 12.4% year-on-year to $4.7 billion in August 2026, while the trade deficit widened by 29% to $6.4 billion, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The rise in exports was driven by increased shipments of petroleum products and chemicals, Amwal Al Ghad reports. Despite the growth in exports, the trade deficit expanded due to a larger increase in imports.
Impact Exporters of petroleum products and chemicals benefit from increased demand, though the wider trade deficit signals rising import costs.
