Proposed sports law may shut down non-compliant bodies
Amendments to the Sports Development Act 1997 are being considered in Malaysia's Parliament, which could allow the minister to revoke the registration of sports bodies deemed incompatible with security or morality, according to Malaysiakini. The proposed changes have raised concerns about the potential for abuse of power and the impact on sports organizations. The amendments seek to give the minister discretionary authority over the legality of sports entities.
Impact Sports organizations face potential deregistration under new regulatory powers.
